G20 Favelas is an innovative initiative created by CUFA (Central Única das Favelas), FNA (Frente Nacional Antirracista) and Frente Parlamentar em Defesa das Favelas, with support from UNESCO. Also known as IFC20 (International Favela’s Conferences 20), the project promotes 3,007 conferences throughout Brazil and in more than 41 countries. The goal is to put favelas on the G20 map, bringing their demands to a global agenda.
National Stage After the conferences held in all regions of Brazil and in other countries, G20 Favelas is preparing for the national stage, scheduled for November 8, 9 and 10 at Cidade das Artes, Rio de Janeiro. This stage will bring together the main proposals from favelas for the construction of concrete solutions on the international stage.
The main topics discussed at the G20 Favelas conferences are: • Reducing Inequalities and Combating Hunger and Poverty • Sustainability • Human Rights, Race and Gender • Global Challenges of Favelas The G20 Favelas represents a new perspective in the international debate, highlighting that solutions to global challenges also come from the favelas. As Celso Athayde, founder of CUFA, says: “If the problems are global, the solutions must be too.”
